Oprah’s Next Project

Oprah has one of the greatest runs in TV history and it will soon come to an end on September 2011, when “The Oprah Winfrey Show” leaves the air.

“This show has been my life,” Oprah tearfully told viewers on November 19. “And I love it enough to know when it’s time to say good-bye. Twenty-five years feels right in my bones and it feels right in my spirit.”

By the time Oprah exits, her new venture, a 24-hour cable channel called the “Oprah Winfrey Network” (OWN) will be up and running and available in 80 million homes (replacing “Discovery Health”).

As of now no shows have been officially announced, but Christina Norman ( CEO of OWN) says, “We’re focused on storytelling and self-discovery, and those themes happen in all types of ways.” she said. “Our goal is to create an experience for this audience that is true to their lives.”

Expect to see familiar faces from Oprah’s talk show, including journalist Lisa Ling and sex expert Dr. Laura Berman, who will be part of the programming lineup announced in upcoming weeks. There will also be movies, some made by Oprah’s “Harpo Productions” that Norman believes will appeal to the audience.

You can begin the retrospective appreciation now by heading over to jezebel.com and reveling in a little montage magic 25 years of Oprah introducing her most famous guests with her voluble, over dramatic flair.

Suzanne Somers to become ‘poster girl’ for stem cell face lifts

Suzanne Somers, 63, will not admit to plastic surgery and only cops to using Botox despite the fact that her face is tight as a drum. Last month, The Daily Beast ran an excellent expose on Somers’ new book claiming to offer alternative cancer treatments, Knockout: Interviews with Doctors Who Are Curing Cancer–And How to Prevent Getting It in the First Place. They quoted cancer experts who debunked a lot of the claims in Somers’ book, with many calling her assertions dangerous and potentially deadly for patients who may opt for unproven experimental methods instead of traditional clinical treatments. Some of the doctors touted in Somers’ book have been outed as quacks. One is facing indictments for fraud after bilking people out of their life savings with promises of a miracle cure.

The National Enquirer reports that Somers’ plans to start touting stem cells for use in cosmetic procedures. She’ll undergo a face and breast lift using a new stem cell method and will start evangelizing it as an anti-aging treatment. I doubt she’ll ever admit to using traditional plastic surgery as well, though. The Daily Beast quoted a plastic surgeon who looked at before and after photos of Somers as saying “I am fairly certain that she has had a face lift, some fillers, and eyelid surgery.”

Suzanne Somers is getting a face-lift - but she’s using a bizarre new procedure that utilizes stem cells, the Enquirer has learned.

The former “Three’s Company” star is telling pals she plans to undergo the process in February and intends to become the poster girl for the cutting-edge procedure.

“Suzanne is incredibly enthusiastic about the use of stem cells to beat aging,” a family friend told the Enquirer. “She thinks stem celsl are the new frontier and she’s determined to spread the word.”

Suzanne, 63, is planning to get both a face and breast lift using the new technique, says the friends.

“She’s starting a new book on anti-aging techniques using stem cells, and she’s going to have her own procedures photographed to emphasize the ‘before’ and ‘after’ benefits.

“She’s already talked to Larry King about making an appearance on his show to promote the project.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, December 21, 2009]

I did some light research on this “stem cell facelift,” and it basically involves using a patient’s own “adult stem cells” from their stomach fat, processing it somehow to extract the stem cells, then re-mixing them with some fat and injecting into the face. It’s touted as a “non surgical facelift” because it involves only injections and no cutting. It costs about $5,000 and takes about an hour under local anesthesia. Recovery is about a week. Somehow the stem cells generate new tissue in the face that is tighter and younger-looking. There’s little chance that the patient might reject the cells because they’re from the patient and not a donor. Some of the before and after photos I’ve seen make it look like this works, although you can’t verify if they’re altered photos or if the patients had a stem cell or traditional facelift. (Here’s a video that explains stem cell facelifts.)

At least with this latest health trend Somers doesn’t have the potential to do much harm. The worst that can happen is that someone wastes their money. There are risks with all surgery but this sounds kind of benign, especially when compared to a regular face lift. Maybe Somers should stick to promoting plastic surgery and quit trying to give health advice. I know I’d rather inject my own fat and stem cells into my face than a chemical or toxin. It’s also a lot safer than opting out of chemotherapy treatment for cancer because some former actress told me to try enzymes instead.

‘In Xanadu Did Kubla Khan A Stately Pleasure-Dome Decree’

Altho David’s return home from back East signaled the end of my Week of Sloth, yesterday was a pretty slothy day for the both of us. We ended up staying in for most of the day … he ventured out to hit the gym, I stayed on the couch watching Xanadu:

I’m telling you … no matter how many times I see this film, I can never get enough. The cheese factor is just too awesome to deny. I love this movie :)

But, yeah, that was pretty much the highlight of my day. Tonight, David and I are going to see The Wizard of Oz at the ArcLight Cinemadome which should be fun. I’ve never seen The Wizard of Oz on the big screen and this is the 70th anniversary digitally remastered version so … it should be rad.

Wonderful World trailer

There's a part of me that's always quietly rooting for Matthew Broderick. In his upcoming film, WONDERFUL WORLD, I have a feeling he'll remind me of why I've followed him since FERRIS BUELLER. Broderick plays failed children's folk artist, Ben Singer. He's an overly negative guy, hell bent on the fact that the world has nothing to offer. Ben's not the best Dad in the world either. Not only is he a... ...

Rachel Uchitel Photos: Tiger Woods’ Mistress Alleged

As rumors exploded last week of an alleged affair, more talk of Tiger Woods’ mistress (alleged) has only been increasing. Just the other day Woods was in a car accident outside his home. While alcohol is said to be not a factor, the word on the street is that the accident was a result of a big fat fight with his wife Elin Nordegren. about the latest news on the Woods drama and see Rachel Uchitel photos here.

Even though the Tiger Woods car crash is said not to be alcohol-related, it is being reported that Elin Nordegren used a golf club to clobber the back window of Tiger’s SUV open in order to assist in getting him out of the vehicle. However, other sources are saying that Nordegren had used the golf club to beat Tiger up after hearing that her husband had possibly been having an affair with another woman. Either way a domestic dispute is rumored to be the supposed reason Tiger left their home. Rachel Uchitel pictures have surfaced.

While Rachel Uchitel is being said to be Tiger Woods’ alleged mistress, this is not the first time this chick has been rumored to be one who is no stranger to relationship scandal as she has been linked to several married men.

Even though no affairs have been confirmed, Media Takeout is claiming that the National Enquirer has information that may have Woods in the doghouse.

Rachel has denied the affair telling a source, “God forbid Tiger got into a car wreck because of this false report of him having an affair. Despite it being completely untrue, it still must have certainly caused some problems at home — if I was his wife, I probably would have killed him. This is nothing to do with me. We have never had an affair, and the claims we did are completely false. We have never had an affair, talked on the phone or sent any type of text, sexy or not. I’m really upset about it because I’m being portrayed as a home-wrecker, when it simply isn’t true.”

In a 2008 interview she said, “Although I’ve been romantically linked to a famous baseball player, a Broadway star, a musician, and various film and television actors, I will never kiss and tell!”

Wow, well if my significant other were ever in an alleged affair, he’d probably get slapped upside the head and a few choice words, but I know there would be no golf club involved! Check out the Rachel Uchitel photos below.
